A Huge Thank You
An Open Letter From Grand Rapids FC President Matt Roberts:
I wanted to take a moment and personally thank everyone for a fantastic 2016 season. To the Coaches, Players, Staff, Supporters, Sponsors, Families, Doctors, Trainers and everyone in between, we can’t thank you enough for the time, effort, and passion you have put in to making GRFC the club it is today. Starting a club from scratch we have obviously had some growing pains and wrong turns over the last two years, but I can honestly say that I couldn’t be prouder of the position our club is in.
To our coaches and players, I know first-hand the countless hours you put in on the training pitch preparing to make the city of Grand Rapids proud of their team. The dedication you have shown is truly inspiring and we say thank you for giving everything you had this season. I know you are hurting because of the loss last Saturday, but that one stain on our record does not show up in an otherwise flawless season.
To our Supporters, what can I say? You have been tremendous in creating a home field advantage that our entire team would point to as the reason we made the great strides we made this year. I have never seen a game at Houseman Field rocking the way it was during the Playoff Semi-Final, and every one of you should be proud that you helped in so many ways. The Grand Army has built something special in such a short period of time that I am blown away each and every game day right before kick off when the clapping starts and we know we are home.
To the Families that bring the next generation of superstars to our matches, thank you. I get so much joy from seeing children laughing and taking in the beautiful game. We hope we can inspire the next Messi, Ronaldo, or Rooney as our country continues to embrace this sport that we love.
The massive success of the 2016 season in my eyes is qualifying for the US Open Cup in May of 2017. This competition is very special and unique to soccer so we hope to make a deep run in the tournament against the very best teams in the country.
Preparations are already underway for the 2017 campaign, and we hope you are as excited about the future of GRFC as we are.
I would very much like to see you all at the match on October 8th at Fifth Third Ballpark as it will be a great celebration of a tremendous season of soccer here in West Michigan.
Once again, from all of us at Grand Rapids Football Club, thank you for an unforgettable 2016 season.
Yours in soccer,
