Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids Football Club announced this morning the return of Goalkeeper Maia Perez for the 2019 United Womens Soccer season.
Perez, a sophomore at Hartford University, made nine appearances for the Ladies in Blue during the 2018 UWS campaign. She made 34 saves in those games, only allowing 8 goals during the regular season and registering four clean sheets. She also made two saves in the Midwest Regional playoff penalty shootout against Detroit Sun to secure a place in the Midwest finals.
During her time at Hartford, she has appeared for the Hawks 37 times in her two years, accumulating a 21-12-3 record and nine clean sheets. She was named to the America East All-Rookie team during her Freshman season.
“I am honored to be a part of such a successful team, and to be able to play for such a great city and fan base is very exciting” said Perez. “I can’t wait to get back to work with my team-mates and try to bring a championship back to Grand Rapids.”
GRFC Women Head Coach James Gilpin commented “We are delighted to welcome back Maia after a very successful first season with GRFC. She made herself a hero with the penalty saves in the Midwest playoffs and we are looking forward to more great moments in 2019.”
GRFC Women return to Grandville on Friday, May 24th as the Midwest champions host Indiana Union at 7:00pm. Additional home dates include June 7th, June 8th, June 21st, and June 30th. The club will also compete in the first ever Women’s Milk Cup with competition dates being announced at a later time.
