Grand Rapids FC Signs Ex-MLS Defender for 2016

Grand Rapids Football Club is very excited to announce our newest player signing for the 2016 season. Please help us welcome Steve Herdsman!

Herdsman, a Defender who will wear number 25, had a six year MLS career with Colorado Rapids and Columbus Crew. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica and is now a coach in the youth and college ranks here in Grand Rapids. He is also starting a new outreach program to help inner-city and underprivileged youth get more involved in the game and give them the opportunity to develop and play at higher levels. Herdsman will also still retain his role of Assistant/Fitness Coach.

“I am excited on many levels for this opportunity” said Herdsman. “First and foremost, I look forward to competing and being a part of a great team that will achieve success within the NPSL. After leaving the MLS, I was challenged to always find a way to give back to the sport. Soccer is not only a great sport to watch and play but can be a vehicle for kids to achieve their dreams whether that is a way to enhance their school experience, go to college, or play at the highest level”.

Associate Head Coach Lewis Robinson commented “We are extremely excited that we had the opportunity to add Steve to our squad this summer. When the opportunity arose to add a player of Steve’s ex professional caliber we jumped at it and know he will help solidify our backline for the summer. Both his undoubtable talents as a player and his ability to help develop and nurture the younger players on our roster make him a hugely valuable addition to our team for our first NPSL season”.
