Grand Rapids FC signs first player for 2016

Grand Rapids Football Club is thrilled to announce that we have signed our first player for the 2016 season. Help us welcome Tony Deakin back to the squad!

Deakin, who was named captain for the 2015 season, was born in Oldham, England and has had several stints with professional teams in England and Australia. He has a BS in Sports Management from Davenport University and played for the Panthers for four years.

“I am very excited to be back playing for GRFC next year” said¬†…Deakin. “This past summer it was great to see the city come out and support us and we want to give the fans an even better product next year. We will work very hard to bring a winning mentality to the pitch as well as good football that our supporters can be proud of”.

GRFC President Matt Roberts commented “We are so pleased to have Tony back in the fold for 2016 after he was such a massive part of the squad during our inaugural season. His toughness, willingness to work for the team, and leadership will help the entire squad as we prepare to take on the NPSL next year. When the coaching staff started to put together the roster for 2016 they obviously started with the 2015 squad and Tony was at the top of the list to bring back. We couldn’t be more excited that our captain is back”.
