Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids FC announced today that captain Tony Deakin will return for the 2018 NPSL season. The 32 year old struggled with a groin problem last year, and had off-season surgery to fully repair the injury. Deakin has made 29 appearances in three seasons for the Boys in Blue, third all time for the club. He lead the squad to a 2016 Great Lakes Conference Championship and the club’s first ever playoff win.
GRFC Head Coach Lewis Robinson commented: “Tony was an obvious first signing for 2018 and will continue to be a great representation of what this club stands for. He is a great player, fantastic leader, and will be very valuable for us next year”.
“I am very excited to come back for the 2018 season and play with GRFC” said Deakin. “I had a tough go of it last year because of injuries, but I am working very hard to get in great shape and be injury free by the start of the campaign. This is likely my last season on the field with the lads, so I will give everything I have to make sure it is a championship year”.
