GRFC Rounds Out Roster With Four Signings

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Rapids Football Club has signed goalkeeper Kyle Taalman, defender Jake Bedi and midfielders Adrian Miling and Austin Swiech for the 2018 National Premier Soccer League season.

Returning for his third season with the Boys in Blue, Taalman has played a part in two clean sheets during his time in Grand Rapids. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound netminder shared a shutout in a 5-0 win versus Oakland County on May 22, 2016 before repeating the feat in a 5-0 victory at Ole SC on June 29, 2016.

Currently between the pipes at Midwestern State University, Taalman appeared twice for Western Michigan University as a redshirt sophomore in 2016, compiling a 0-1-0 record with a 3.59 goals-against average and a 0.692 save percentage. The Hudsonville, Mich., native began his collegiate career with Ohio State University, but did not see any game action with the Buckeyes.

Bedi recently completed his senior season at Aquinas College, tallying 11 goals and four assists in 18 starts. The 6-foot-2 defender was subsequently honored as a Second Team All-WHAC selection. In total, the Commerce Township, Mich., native notched 15 goals and nine assists in 56 appearances with the Saints.

Prior to his collegiate career, Bedi earned four varsity letters at Detroit Catholic Central High School, captaining the Shamrocks in his sophomore campaign.

Miling recently finished his freshman year at Lawrence Tech University, recording three goals and two assists in 17 appearances with the Blue Devils. The 5-foot-9 midfielder to the All-WHAC Second Team and the WHAC All-Newcomer Team.

Prior to his collegiate career, Miling earned three varsity letters with Forest Hills Northern High School from 2014-16. After notching 14 goals and 23 assists as a senior in 2016, the Las Rojas, Madrid, Spain, native was named to the MHSSCA All-State Dream Team and the Division 2 All-State First Team.

Swiech recently concluded his freshman season at the University of Michigan, appearing in three matches with the Wolverines. The Jenison, Mich., native made his debut for the Maize and Blue as a substitute in a 1-0 win versus William & Mary on Aug. 25.

Prior to his collegiate career, the 5-foot-10, 150-pound midfielder excelled at Jenison High School, recording 14 goals and 37 assists as a senior in 2016 and earning a place on the MHSSCA Division 2 All-State Second Team. Following a successful junior season in 2016, Swiech was selected to the Division 2 All-State Third Team.

GRFC returns to Houseman Field on Friday, May 4 as the Boys in Blue host Livonia City FC at 7:30 p.m. Additional home dates include May 19, May 27, June 3, June 8, June 15, June 22, June 29 and July 7.
