Timmer, a central midfielder, was voted the 2017 GRFC Player of the Year after appearing in 23 games in 2016 and 2017 before sitting out the 2018 season with a torn ACL. He has scored seven goals during those two campaigns, and has previous experience with Lansing United and Portland Timbers. Timmer spent two years at Iowa Western before transferring to play two seasons at Western Michigan University.
“I am extremely honored to be a part of this club again” said Timmer. “It is a special group of players in a great soccer city. It made me absolutely sick last year being in the stands with an unfortunate injury that held me out. Watching my teammates and friends out there without being able to help was honestly devastating. To be playing in front of these fans and wearing the blue again is something I have thought about every day since the injury. We have had several good seasons and have been very close every year to making a run in the NPSL. We were just missing a few pieces in order to be dominant and bring home a trophy. That is the goal this year and I am 100 percent determined and committed to the process of bringing home the NPSL championship for the city of Grand Rapids. This year is truly #forthecity.”
GRFC Head Coach Lewis Robinson commented “Greg Timmer is a special player and we are thrilled to be able to add him back into our squad for 2019. I have been lucky enough to work with him for several years now and I know first-hand that he brings great experience and quality to our center midfield. He is a player that makes everybody better around him on the field and we are looking forward to seeing him get back to his best for this summer and leading our team in the NPSL.”
