GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Rapids Football Club has signed defender Jordan Atheba for the 2018 National Premier Soccer League season.
Atheba, 24, joins the Boys in Blue after spending the 2017-18 season with Martigues of Championnat National 2, the fourth tier of French soccer. Martigues currently sits in sixth place with a 10-7-8 record in a group featuring the reserve teams of French giants Marseille, Monaco and Nice.
Originally from Belgium, Atheba arrived in France after making two appearances for CD Eldense during the 2016-17 campaign. The Alicante club competed that season in Segunda Division B, the third tier of Spanish soccer. Atheba has also spent time in Cyprus with AEK Larnaca along with Belgian sides Eendracht Aalst, Waasland-Beveren and Standard Liege.
Atheba has represented his country in international competition, appearing in four matches at the U19 level alongside future Belgian internationals including Divock Origi and Dennis Praet. He also appeared 10 times for Belgium at the U17 level and saw action eight times with the U16 squad.
GRFC returns to Houseman Field on Friday, May 4 as the Boys in Blue host Livonia City FC at 7:30 p.m. Additional home dates include May 19, May 27, June 3, June 8, June 15, June 22, June 29 and July 7.
