Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids Football Club announced today that Clare Carlson will return for the 2019 United Womens Soccer season. Carlson, a Defender, was a part of both the 2017 National Championship and 2018 Midwest Championship teams. She has made 21 appearances for the Girls in Blue over the first two seasons, scoring 5 goals in that period from right back. She played collegiately at GVSU, winning three NCAA D2 National Championships and being named GLIAC Defender of the Year twice during her four years.
“GRFC has been one of the best additions to the Grand Rapids community, and I am so proud to be a part of it” said Carlson. “Soccer is hands down the world’s most beloved sport, and women’s soccer has grown exponentially in the past decade. As a player on the GRFC Women’s team since it’s inaugural year, I am extremely eager for our 2019 season to begin and make our fans proud of the product we put out on the field.”
GRFC Women Head Coach James Gilpin commented “Clare has been a part of the GRFC Women’s family since the beginning and we are delighted to have her returning. She exemplifies what it means to be a team player and always lead by example. Clare will be a great personality on the team and someone that the younger players can look up to.”
