Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids Football Club announced this morning the return of Forward Eric Conerty to the squad for the 2019 National Premier Soccer League season.
Conerty, 20, recently transferred to Western Michigan University after playing his Freshman season at Butler University. In seventeen appearances for the Bulldogs this fall, the young forward scored two goals and registered four assists. Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, he guided Forest Hills Central High School to an overall record of 34-5-4 throughout his career. During his senior year, Conerty recorded 40 goals and 12 assists to become a United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American. He played club soccer for the Columbus Crew Academy and achieved high academic honors all four years of high school.
He joined the Boys in Blue halfway through the 2018 campaign and made five appearances, scoring a goal in the 6-0 rout of FC Indiana.
“Being able to play for a team like GRFC after growing up and playing in Grand Rapids my entire life, is a real privilege” said Conerty. “The fan base continues to show their endless support every year, and playing at one of the highest levels in this country is always something I strive to do. This opportunity presents a challenge and I am thoroughly excited to get back at it with the boys!”
GRFC Head Coach Lewis Robinson commented “Eric is one of West Michigan’s top prospects and had some exciting moments at the end of last season with us. We are really excited to help him continue to develop to the next level and make a big step forward this summer.”
GRFC returns to Houseman Field on Saturday, May 4 as the Boys in Blue host Livonia City FC at 7:30 p.m. Additional home dates include May 11, May 18, May 31, June 9, June 16, June 28, June 30, and July 13.
