First Ever West Michigan Soccer Awards a Success

Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids Football Club hosted the first ever West Michigan Soccer Awards Saturday night at the Wege Ballroom on the campus of Aquinas College.  GRFC recognized 14 honorees as a part of the night, concluding with the Garner family accepting the inaugural Rodger Garner Dedication Award. 

The winners include:

Boys Youth Coach of the Year – George Moni (Midwest United)

Girls Youth Coach of the Year – Lizzie Paul Hornack (SCOR)

Girls High School Coach of the Year – Kelly Conlon (Byron Center)

Boys High School Coach of the Year – John Conlon (East Kentwood)

Girls High School Player of the Year – Regan Coxon (Lowell)

Boys High School Coach of the Year – Tommy Visser (GR Christian)

Womens College Coach of the Year – Lewis Robinson (Aquinas)

Mens College Coach of the Year – Ryan Souders (Calvin)

Womens College Player of the Year – Bethany Balcer (Spring Arbor)

Mens College Coach of the Year – Giuseppe Barone (Michigan State)

Administrator of the Year – Elissa Vire (CATS)

Referee of the Year – Nick Balcer

Supporter of the Year – Carrie Gillette

Rog Garner Dedication Award – The Garner Family

“It was a great night to get so many people who do so much for West Michigan soccer in one room to celebrate the hard work that goes on behind the scenes and achievements on the field” said GRFC President Matt Roberts.  “We are excited to hopefully grow this event every year and recognize more and more people who are committed to developing the beautiful game here in West Michigan.”

The Club also made two major announcements at the Awards night.  First, the club has established the GRFC Foundation to help players, coaches, and referees develop and more information about this new venture will be released in the coming months.  Second, all youth players aged 14 and under will get free admission to all GRFC Women’s games during the 2019 UWS season.

GRFC will return to Houseman Field on Saturday, May 4th as the Boys in Blue host Livonia City at 7:30pm.  Additional home dates include May 11th, May 18th, May 31st, June 9th, June 16th, June 28th, June 30th, and July 13th.  The club will also compete in the Michigan Milk Cup and the US Amateur Cup with competition dates being announced at a later time.
