Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids Football Club announced this morning the return of defender Franco Calabrese for the 2019 National Premier Soccer League season.
Calabrese, 21, is currently a Junior at Aquinas College and was named a captain this past Fall. He has made 49 appearances for the Saints, scoring three goals and registering 13 assists in that time. He has played mainly as a holding midfielder in his time at Aquinas, but will be deployed as a defender for the Boys in Blue.
Calabrese made four appearances for GRFC last season, registering one assist.
“I am grateful to be able to play for my hometown with such a talented roster” said Calabrese. “I hope to help the team any way I can and get us back to winning ways quickly this season.”
GRFC Head Coach Lewis Robinson commented “Franco had a great first year with us last season and really made his mark as a top young player for us. He can play in the midfield or in the back and we are looking forward to him taking another step forward as a player this summer.”
GRFC will return to Houseman Field on Saturday, May 4th as the Boys in Blue host Livonia City at 7:30pm. Additional home dates include May 11th, May 18th, May 31st, June 9th, June 16th, June 28th, June 30th, and July 13th. The club will also compete in the Michigan Milk Cup and the US Amateur Cup with competition dates being announced at a later time.
