Grand Rapids Football Club has joined forces with GVSU Soccer in an attempt to break two soccer attendance records over two weekends in September and October.
Grand Valley State Women’s Soccer has won five Division II National Championships in the past seven years and are ranked #1 in the polls currently.
The Grand Valley State women’s soccer team will host Tiffin University at GVSU’s Lubbers Stadium on Friday, September 30th as they attempt to break the single-game attendance record for Division II women’s soccer. The Lakers aim to best the current record of 3,227, which was set in a game between then No. 1 Wayne St. (NE) and No. 2 Nebraska-Kearney at Nebraska-Kearney on August 27, 2009. The event will be named Friday Night Futbol and will be broadcast on ESPN3.
Grand Rapids Football Club have teamed up with the West Michigan Whitecaps to play a match at Fifth Third Ballpark on Saturday, October 8th. We are attempting to break our single game attendance record of 6,854 which was set during the National Premier Soccer League regular season against AFC Ann Arbor. The event, named Futbol at the Ballpark, will be a showcase for International Soccer as the opponent will be Aurora United from the Ontario Soccer League.
“We are very excited to join forces with Grand Valley State as we have always had a great relationship with their Men’s Club and Women’s teams” said GRFC President Matt Roberts. “With both events aiming to set attendance records we thought it would be fantastic to join forces to promote both. We know The Grand Army has already started planning a tailgate for the GVSU match and a party at the ballpark before our match so there will be all kinds of entertainment going on around these two great events”.
