Grand Rapids Football Club is proud to announce another player signing for the 2016 season. Please help us welcome Nick Groenewold!
Groenewold, a defender who will wear number 35, is currently a Senior at Calvin College. The 6’3″ center back was a Division 3 All-American this past Fall and was named MIAA Player of the Year while leading the Knights to the semi-finals of the NCAA tournament. He is originally from Oak Brook, Illinois.
“I am extremely excited to represent this club and more importantly this city” said Groenewold. “Grand Rapids is an amazing place and has become a second home for me. I always wear my heart on my sleeve and I hope we can make the Grand Army and the City of Grand Rapids proud through our play this season. I am truly blessed for this opportunity and can’t wait to see the growth and success that will occur from working with the great coaches and players of GRFC”.
GRFC President Matt Roberts on the signing: “We are very excited to add Nick to our squad for 2016. He came and trained with us during the winter and the coaching staff were immediately impressed by his calm demeanor and reading of the game. He will be a great addition to our back line as we head into our first NPSL season.
