Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids Football Club added goalkeepers Naoya Fugono and David Paquette to the squad for the 2019 National Premier Soccer League season.
Fugono, 22, just finished up his senior season at Indiana Wesleyan. During his one year with the Wildcats, he appeared in 17 games and had four clean sheets. He played his first three collegiate seasons at NAIA powerhouse Martin Methodist after coming over to the states from Tokyo, Japan.
Paquette, 19, played his Freshman season at Harvard University this Fall and started three matches for the Crimson. He made his collegiate debut against Hofstra in September, then started against #5 Denver and #23 Air Force. He recorded nine saves against the Pioneers.
GRFC Head Coach Lewis Robinson on the signings: “We are very excited to add players like Naoya and David to our goalkeeping group for the 2019 season. They are two young goalkeepers who have a lot of potential and will push to play this season in certain situations. We feel this is one of the deepest groups of goalkeepers we have ever had and are excited to get everyone in and get to work.”
GRFC will return to Houseman Field on Saturday, May 4th as the Boys in Blue host Livonia City at 7:30pm. Additional home dates include May 11th, May 18th, May 31st, June 9th, June 16th, June 28th, June 30th, and July 13th. The club will also compete in the Michigan Milk Cup and the US Amateur Cup. Round one of the Amateur Cup will take place on Saturday, April 13th as GRFC takes on Ann Arbor FC at Grandville High School.
