Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids Football Club announced this morning the signing of Midfielder Caden Jackman and Defender Jaylen Shannon from Western Michigan University for the 2019 NPSL season.
Jackman, originally from Caledonia, is currently a Freshman for the Broncos and appeared in 19 games during his rookie season, starting 3. He scored two goals, including the game winner against NIU in the MAC tournament quarter-finals. During his prep career, he was named team MVP twice, All-Conference twice, and was named first team all-state his senior season.
“I am very excited to represent the city I’ve grown up in” said Jackman. “I can’t wait to play in front of an amazing fan base at Houseman Field.”
Shannon, originally from St. Joseph, is also a Freshman at WMU and redshirted during the 2018 season. He has started every game for the Broncos during the spring season, with the coaching staff pointing to him as a big contributor next season. He was named All-Conference and All-Sate during his time in high school, and won a State Cup and Super Y National Championship with his club team.
“I am looking forward to by first season with GRFC, and I want to help the team win as much as possible” said Shannon. “I am very excited to play in front of one of the best soccer fan bases in Michigan.”
GRFC Mens Head Coach Lewis Robinson commented “Caden and Jaylen are two young players with tremendous upside. We can’t wait to get them with the rest of the squad and see them grow this summer as well as help us immediately on the field as we have a very full schedule. We are very excited to see two more young local players get the opportunity to compete at the NPSL level.”
GRFC will return to Houseman Field on Saturday, May 4th as the Boys in Blue host Livonia City at 7:30pm in the second round of the US Amateur Cup. Additional home dates include May 11th, May 18th, May 31st, June 9th, June 16th, June 28th, June 30th, and July 13th. The club will also compete in the Michigan Milk Cup this summer.
