Grand Rapids FC travelled to the state capital Saturday night for their first ever match and walked away 1-0 winners against the current NPSL Great Lakes conference champions Lansing United. Over 700 people (many sporting GRFC gear) were at Archer Stadium to see a historic first walk-out, first goal, and first win.
Head coach George Moni commented “I think it was a great result and we got to see our players in a fantastic environment that was high intensity. The supporters were awesome and pushed us forward to try to get a result from the game”.
Goalkeeper Beau Prey was named Proper Soda Man of the Match for keeping a clean sheet and making a string of three saves in one sequence to keep GRFC in the match. GRFC next travels to Rochester to take on Oakland United in their first ever Great Lakes Premier League match on Saturday, May 23rd at 7:00pm.
The first home match for Grand Rapids FC is Saturday, May 30th against GLPL opponent AFC Ann Arbor.
