Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids FC is excited to welcome back one of its most decorated players for the upcoming USL League Two season. Fan favorite, Tony Deakin brings with him years of experience including four trophies and five years of captaincy. His passion for our city and for this beautiful game is evident both on and off the field.
Deakin, who has been playing for GRFC since its first season in 2015, also coaches locally for Midwest United FC in their Girls Academy program, on top of being the owner of Deakin Fitness. His personal cheering section includes his wife, Amanda and his two kids, Arthur (4) and Kate (1). “Everyday is Game Day” is his favorite quote and accurately describes his seemingly tireless work ethic.
When asked about the 2021 season, Deakin said, “I am looking forward to another great season playing for GRFC and using my experience to lead the team to more success. I can’t wait to get back in front of the Grand Army and the Grand Rapids community to help GRFC get back to their glory days.”
He continued, “There is nothing better than playing for the team and city you love. I can’t wait to take on this new challenge in the USL2, playing against some old rivals and of course, win more trophies. #GRTID”
Head Coach Stu Collins added, “I’m really pleased to have Tony on board. It’s hugely important to our environment to have good leaders who can help set standards and provide experience in this new league. These will matter in the course of the USL2 season. Tony means a lot to the club and we are very happy he’s going to continue to play.”
