GRFC Re-Signs Gabe Mateo

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Rapids Football Club has re-signed forward Gabe Mateo for the 2018 National Premier Soccer League season.

Mateo, 25, made 13 competitive appearances for GRFC during the 2017 campaign and scored one goal. The 5-foot-11 forward tallied the opening marker in a 3-0 win versus FC Indiana on July 9.

Returning for his third season with the Boys in Blue, Mateo has accumulated seven goals for the club, five of which have come in friendly matches. The Wyoming, Mich., native was a member of GRFC’s 2016 Great Lakes West Conference-winning squad and appeared in both Midwest Region playoff contests that season.

Prior to joining GRFC, Mateo spent two seasons with Lansing United from 2014-15. During his first year with the Hoops, Mateo netted the game-winning goal in the 2014 Midwest Region Final against Fort Pitt Regiment to clinch a berth in the NPSL National Semifinals.

Mateo also played one season at Aquinas College, recording two goals and three assists in 21 appearances for the Saints in 2012.
