Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids Football Club announced this morning the signing of defender Wladimir Babaew for the 2019 National Premier Soccer League season.
Babaew, 22, was born in Germany but holds Russian and German citizenship. He has experience with the Russian U16 National team, and has played with Dayton Dutch Lions in 2017 in the PDL and FC Columbus in the NPSL during the 2018 campaign. Last summer in Columbus, Babaew played all twelve league games and only missed seven minutes during the season.
He played two seasons with NCAA D1 Northern Kentucky before transferring to Saginaw Valley State this Fall. During the 2018 campaign, the Cardinals won the GLIAC conference championship and made the last 16 of the NCAA Division 2 tournament. Babaew played 20 games during this historic season, playing 1,880 minutes while leading the team in the back-line.

GRFC returns to Houseman Field on Saturday, May 4th as the Boys in Blue host Livonia City FC at 7:30pm. Additional home dates include May 11, May 18, May 31, June 9, June 16, June 28, June 30, and July 13.
