Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids Football Club announced this morning the signing of midfielder Alex Mendoza for the 2019 National Premier Soccer League season.
Mendoza, 28, spent the 2018 season with Las Vagas Lights of the USL Championship. He made 18 appearances for the 2nd division side, scoring two goals and registering two assists. A duel United States and Mexico citizen, Mendoza spent three years with UNAM Pumas of Liga MX, one of the most popular clubs in Mexico, and played at several levels for Morelo de Acenso. He also played for PDL side LA Misioneros and CFR Cluj in Romania.
“I am very excited to join Grand Rapids FC, and can’t wait to get to work with the squad” said Mendoza. “I have heard great things about the organization and the fans and really look forward to getting there and meeting everyone.”
GRFC Head Coach Lewis Robinson commented “We are excited to add a quality player like Alex to the squad at this point. He is a difference-maker in the middle of the park, with his tackling ability and passing range adding to an already loaded midfield. We can’t wait to get him here and start working.”
GRFC will return to Houseman Field on Saturday, May 4th as the Boys in Blue host Livonia City at 7:30pm. Additional home dates include May 11th, May 18th, May 31st, June 9th, June 16th, June 28th, June 30th, and July 13th. The club will also compete in the Michigan Milk Cup and the US Amateur Cup with competition dates being announced at a later time.
