Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids Football Club announced this afternoon the signing of defender Emily Ashby for the 2019 United Womens Soccer season.
Ashby, 19, is a Freshman at the University of Michigan and redshirted this past Fall. During her prep career, she was named the Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year at Forest Hills Northern, garnering All-State, Dream Team, and All-American honors along the way. She also led her Midwest United youth team to four straight Michigan State Cups, a USYSA National League title, and the USYSA National Final in 2017.
She joined the Girls in Blue late in the 2018 season and made three appearances, helping lead the club to a UWS Midwest championship and a spot in the UWS National Finals
“I am so excited and thankful to be able to come home and play for this great club with fantastic players and friends” said Ashby.
GRFC Women Head Coach James Gilpin commented “Emily got some valuable minutes in big games for us last summer and I believe that will help add more experience to the team as we look to challenge for more titles. She has a great attitude and someone the younger fans can look up to.”
