Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids Football Club announced that Jake Vanderlaan will return for the 2019 National Premier Soccer League season. Vanderlaan, a defender, has made 23 appearances for the Boys in Blue over three seasons. He suffered a torn achilles tendon one game into the 2017 campaign, and a hamstring injury kept him out a part of the 2018 season. Vanderlaan was part of the 2016 squad that won the Great Lakes Conference and beat Indy Eleven in the first round of the playoffs. He also has NPSL experience with Lansing United and played collegiately at Oakland University.
“Going into my fourth season with GRFC it only feels right” said Grand Haven native Vanderlaan. “It’s where I want to be and I am glad the club feels the same. Everyone in this organization from the players and coaches, to the owner, employees, and fans, are hungry for more. This is an environment you can’t ignore and we expect to make a statement this season about soccer in West Michigan. I’m very excited to be a part of this family for another season.”
GRFC Head Coach Lewis Robinson commented “Jake has been a huge part of the club over the pas few years and I am very happy he will be returning this year. He is one of West Michigan’s top players and a natural leader at the back in our team. He possesses great NPSL experience and will be a big part of our squad this summer.”
