Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids Football Club is happy to announce that James Gilpin will return as the GRFC Womens coach for the 2019 season. Gilpin, who took over after Chris Allen had to step down due to family medical issues in February, led the Ladies in Blue to a 7-1-2 regular season record and the #2 seed in the Midwest Playoffs. GRFC Women then went on to defeat Detroit Sun in the semi-finals 3-2 after penalties and Lansing United 4-2 to lift the Midwest Conference Championship for the second time in two years. The 2018 season came to a disappointing end as they lost to Inferno Rush 4-3 in the UWS National Semi-Finals.
“I am delighted to be returning for the 2019 UWS season with the Grand Rapids FC Womens team” said Gilpin. “The support we received from the city was amazing and the players showed their appreciation by giving everything on the field. We look forward to progressing the program to continue to represent our city in a positive manner and inspiring the younger generations to get involved in the sport of soccer.”
GRFC President Matt Roberts commented “We are very excited to have James back for the 2019 season with the Womens team. He did a fantastic job taking over so close to the season and leading our club to another Midwest championship. I am looking forward to working with James again this season to continue the success our club has had on the womens side during the first two campaigns.”
