Joe Broekhuizen Hired As New GM

Grand Rapids, MI –  Joseph Broekhuizen Accepts New Role as GRFC General Manager
With Collegiate, Professional, and International Experience, Joe Brings a New Vision to the Club.

Grand Rapids Football Club has named Joseph Broekhuizen as their new General Manager. Joe represented the Boys in Blue on the field for the last five seasons before his move to this front office role.

As a Grand Rapids native, Broekhuizen played high school soccer at South Christian before continuing on
to play four years for the Calvin College Knights. While at Calvin, Joe majored in Sports Management with
a minor in Business. The Calvin Knights appeared in two NCAA National Finals in 2009 and 2011.
Broekhuizen then signed a two-year professional contract for the Dayton Dutch Lions during their time in
the USL Pro while affiliated with the MLS side, Columbus Crew. After leaving Ohio, Joe signed a one-year
contract in the Finnish Premier League for Vaasan Palloseura (VPS) of the Veikkausliiga.

Then the real fun began. Joe moved back to Grand Rapids and joined forces with numerous former
teammates and opponents from his early playing years, as well as his brother, Sean, for some of the best
summers that Grand Rapids soccer has ever seen. While playing for The Boys in Blue, Broekhuizen also
took over as the head coach of Jenison High School Wildcats for three fall seasons as well.
“I am honored and blessed to be in this position, and I want to first and foremost give all the glory to God
for the opportunities He has given me through the game of soccer. This game has been such a positive
gift in my life. I could not be more excited to use this opportunity to continue to give back to the
community and its players, both youth and pro alike. I have made lifelong friends throughout my time
playing, coaching, and watching this beautiful game and will use these experiences to continue to promote passion for this city and pride for this team. I want to give a shoutout to all the former GRFC players, coaches, staff, and founding members for their part in building something truly special that we, as a club, will continue to develop.”

When asked about plans moving forward he went on to say, I am eager to get down to business and workwith players and fans. I want to connect with our quality Grand Rapids soccer community to continue togrow the game the right way. ‘One City One Club’ is the coming together of all the local high schools, colleges, and club teams. This, along with our incredible fan base, will form something bigger and grander than the sum of its parts. We are stronger together both on and off the field. Grand Rapids ‘til I die.
