Joe Broekhuizen Returns for Fourth NPSL Season

Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids Football Club announced this afternoon the return of Joe Broekhuizen for the 2019 NPSL season.

Broekhuizen, 27, was limited in action last season due to a hand injury sustained during the off-season.  The towering forward has been a key player for the Boys in Blue over the past three seasons, leading the line in many big games and has also been a key leader off the field for the club.  He has appeared in 23 games for GRFC, scoring 7 goals in that time, with the biggest being a brace against Detroit City FC at Houseman Field during the 2016 campaign.  Prior to playing for GRFC, Broekhuizen played at VPS in the Finland First Division and stateside with Dayton Dutch Lions of the USL.

“I can’t wait to represent this great city for another season” said Broekhuizen.  “To be able to play in front of my hometown and in front of fans like ours is something I will never take for granted and I will do everything in my power to make sure our play reflects that.  Over the last few seasons, we have come really close to putting some good playoff runs together and to bow out the way we did last season was both maddening and motivating.  We will continue to push towards championships and making this great city proud of the game we play.”

GRFC Head Coach Lewis Robinson commented “Joe is a leader in our group and brings a wealth of experience and quality to our squad.  He is hungry to bring more success to Grand Rapids FC and we are looking forward to getting him back on the field with us this summer.”

GRFC will return to Houseman Field on Saturday, May 4th as the Boys in Blue host Livonia City at 7:30pm.  Additional home dates include May 11th, May 18th, May 31st, June 9th, June 16th, June 28th, June 30th, and July 13th.  The club will also compete in the Michigan Milk Cup and the US Amateur Cup with competition dates being announced at a later time.
