Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids FC is thrilled to announce Matty Cornish to the 2021 roster. He played for Newcastle United FC Academy until the age of 15. In his last two years of undergraduate studies in England, he was called up for the England University Men’s National Team, where he scored the winning goal in the final of the home-nation tournament. Matty is excited to join the legacy here in Grand Rapids, and experience GRFC, the fans and everything the city has to offer.
Cornish tells us, “I’m very much looking forward to traveling up to Michigan to meet everyone involved with the club. I have heard that it’s a fantastic area to live, so I’m excited to experience a fresh part of the US. Mainly though I’m looking forward to playing competitive soccer which has been very hard to come by in recent times.”
GRFC Head Coach Stuart Collins is anticipating Matty bringing his extensive experience to the team. “I’m really happy we were able to get Matty over the line. He’s a really exciting attacking player who has great ability and imagination. He has already played at some very high levels and possesses all the tools to be a massive impact player this summer. I have no doubt he will be a fan favorite this season!”
Keep an eye out for Matty Cornish making waves this summer in Grand Rapids. “I think we will be very competitive this season and I’ve heard the fans are brilliant, so hopefully we can give them some great moments to celebrate this year.”
