GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Rapids Football Club has re-signed midfielder Nick Abdoo for the 2018 National Premier Soccer League season.
Abdoo, 27, notched two goals in 11 competitive appearances for the Boys in Blue during the 2017 campaign. On July 11, the 5-foot-7 midfielder garnered Man of the Match honors after scoring GRFC’s first goal in a come-from-behind 2-2 draw at the Milwaukee Torrent.
Returning for his fourth season with the Boys in Blue, Abdoo is the team’s all-time leader with 33 competitive appearances, accumulating seven total goals for the club. Most notably, Abdoo helped GRFC win the 2016 Great Lakes West Conference title and featured in both Midwest Region playoff matches.
A native of Lowell, Mich., Abdoo finished his collegiate career at Grand Valley State University (2010-12), leading the Lakers to back-to-back Midwest Alliance Conference regional playoff appearances in his last two seasons. During his senior campaign, Abdoo helped GVSU win the 2012 NCCS National Soccer Championship consolation bracket.
Prior to transferring to GVSU, Abdoo played two seasons at Indiana Tech (2008-09), recording 11 goals in 26 appearances with the Warriors. As a sophomore in 2009, Abdoo guided the Warriors to the WHAC Tournament crown as the program reached the second round of the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship.
GRFC returns to Houseman Field on Friday, May 4 as the Boys in Blue host Livonia City FC at 7:30 p.m. Additional home dates include May 19, May 27, June 3, June 8, June 15, June 22, June 29 and July 7.
